The demands of the wind and solar farm maintenance are as unique as they are complex. Vast areas of land usage combined with power generating from solar panels make it an ideal situation for the UAV. Using thermal imaging combined with visible spectrum images, large areas of solar arrays can be inspected from the air. Not only can faulty panels be identified, but individual cells can be marked and geolocated. Any faults can quickly be isolated and mapped allowing rapid access by technicians. The use of UAVs brings inspection time down from days to hours.
The exterior of the wind turbine tower is constantly exposed to the elements and the blades are most susceptible to damage in weather events such as ice storms, thunderstorms, high winds, etc. Chips, cracks and delamination of the composite material in the blades can contribute to a decrease in the overall efficiency of the system and if not corrected, can result in catastrophic failure of the blade or worse yet, the entire tower.
We can perform routine inspections of the entire tower with very minimal downtime (< 60 minutes) on your system and provide the information needed - bringing attention to critical areas and reducing the need to spend unnecessary time in an otherwise dangerous environment.
Onsite technical staff can view the live High-Definition video feed and direct the pilot to inspect critical or questionable areas in more detail, all recorded and available for post flight review.
