CHALLENGE

Bionic Eye and particularly Bionic Group has been working with Volker Fitzpatrick for several years helping communicate complex phasing sequences for their major projects (Method Statements). As a result of our collaboration, Volker Fitzpatrick wanted to find a way to elevate their bid submissions in light on new technology. They also wanted to find out if there was a way to gain a topological dataset for the site for planning and resourcing.

SOLUTION

We suggest that we used our LiDAR-based UAV systems to scan the construction site in detail so that they had a very accurate model to work from. We visited the site which was being prepared for the initial construction works, and through a series of flights captured the site and surrounding areas as a cloud point model.

BENEFITS

• Reduced Health and Safety considerations - lower human intervention, no disruption to existing work activity, no abseiling, no human connection to unstable structures
• Allowed an accurate model for volumetric analysis for earthworks to confirm pricing model 
• The Cloud point mad ethe client look more advanced as it was used for the bid presentation
• Upon winning the project, the cloud point is now used for the BIM model
